We are pleased to welcome Dinu Philip Alex (Alex), Director of Operations of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association as our special guest speaker. He will share information about the DBA’s Core Services program which includes Downtown Shine, the Downtown Night Patrol and the Downtown Ambassador Programs.

This event is open to all Downtown Edmonton residents and DECL members. To find out if you live in the boundaries of Downtown, check here.

The purpose of this meeting is to review the business of the league over the past year, including 2023 financial statements and to approve and adopt the bylaws recently amended and approved by the Board. Light refreshments will be served, there will also be a cash bar available.

We have open seats for an Executive position and Directors on the DECL Board. Following election, the new board members can communicate their preference to the President for open positions that will be filled at the first meeting of the new Board in May.  Those positions include:

  • Secretary (Executive)
  • Programming committee chair (events)
  • Safety chair
  • Directors-at-Large

If you’re interested in being a board member and want to find out more, please email us at for more information.

Please review the bylaw amendments
The DECL bylaws had not been amended since 2014. Starting in July 2023, the board began a bylaw review process. Current Board Members Alandra Ross, Asheika Sood, and Chris Buyze, as well as past board member Sam Goertz, reviewed them in full and suggested edits that were then successively reviewed with the board as a whole. The board used suggested bylaws from the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) to supplement DECL’s existing bylaws and EFCL staff provided oversight.

Some significant changes include the addition of an Institutional Associate Membership category (more info to come); clarification of Director election, appointment, resignation, and removal; the addition of a section on dispute resolution; clarification of general meeting procedures; and clarification on auditing procedure.

All members are asked to read and review the proposed bylaw changes so you are prepared to vote whether to approve/adopt them at the AGM.
