ABOUT
US
.
Welcome to the DECL,
the Downtown Edmonton Community League.
Our board and committees are comprised of volunteers who live or work in the downtown area. They represent downtown
residents in matters of development, parks, policies and other issues as well as planning and arranging community
activities in the downtown core.
Downtown Edmonton is a great place to "live, learn, work and play" and residency is expanding at an unprecedented
rate with the ever-increasing redevelopment. We hope that you'll support our sponsors, join the community league,
and have a say in downtown community issues that affect you.

Our area, Downtown Edmonton, sits on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, bordered on the west by the
domed, granite and sandstone Legislative Building, and on the east by the castle-like Hotel MacDonald. There are
many place to shop and eat including the City Centre Mall. The area around Sir Winston Churchill Square is called
the Arts District. The Winspear Centre for Music, the Citadel Theater for performing arts, the new Art Gallery
of Alberta, and the Stanley Milner Library are world-class facilities you can find there.
Sir Winston Churchill Square, a park in the core of downtown, is a favourite summer hangout of the office crowd
and weekend fun seekers. The square hosts many of the city's festivals, and is the "front yard" of the
glass pyramid-topped City Hall.
Jasper Avenue is home to many of Edmonton's oldest heritage buildings and some of Edmonton's tallest office towers,
including Canadian Western Bank Place and Scotia Place. It is also home to trendy restaurants and bars. Chinatown
is just a few blocks from downtown. Enclosed pedestrian walkways called "pedways," both underground and
overhead, connect most of the downtown buildings. There is lots to do and see downtown.
